For the past five years my work has been about developing a relationship and understanding of the unique world of the Florida Panhandle.  Having lived in California, the Arizona desert and Western New York State, this environment has been entirely new and different.  it is confusing, gorgeous, extreme, diverse and just simply amazing!

So often I just need to paint the weather, the water, the moss hanging from oaks along with the perfect horizontal and vertical lines in Tallahassee.  It's things dripping, watery, dark and sunny.  It's shrimp boats, old and new buildings and a magnificently diverse flora and fauna.  It's a living, working culture experienced nowhere else.

Lately I have been doing a lot of in studio work and not so much imagination.  It has been good technically speaking, but does tend to bore me.  Ho hum, do this...do that...  I really like to paint with abandon as this is when I believe truth is expressed and the "magic" happens...but it is all part of being an artist.

A note on one of my recent paintings "In Wildness..."

The painting has been cropped to 26" X 17" (see photo on Recent Work page) so that it makes a more pleasing and "proper" composition.  However, the painting is actually 30" X 23" and even though the child is centered, I STILL like it.  Should anyone wish to purchase the painting this is how it will ship - cropping at the discretion of the purchaser.
